Straight answers about Data from APRA, delivered clean. data
How many policies and claims does the APRA NCPD cover?
Every open or closed policy and claim since 2003 across professional indemnity, public and product liability, cyber insurance and management liability, aggregated into report cells by year, product, class of business, ANZSIC industry, deductible band, state and limit band. The current edition carries a December 2024 reference period across policy, claims, Lloyd's and facility reports.
Does the data go down to individual insurers?
Institution-level detail survives in the pre-July 2023 archives of the quarterly statistics, and the Statistics Portal's general-insurance publications reach down to individual authorised general insurers from December 2002 onward. Under the post-2023 reporting framework, published figures are market aggregates while APRA consults on confidentiality treatment.
How far back does Australian insurance history reach here?
December 2002 for quarterly aggregates and portal-indexed general-insurance statistics, and 2003 for the policy-and-claim record in the NCPD - more than two decades of continuous regulator-collected history, delivered as adjacent panels around the July 2023 reporting-standard boundary rather than one naively spliced table.
Why do some NCPD figures appear as asterisks?
Asterisks mark cells suppressed to protect the identity of individual insurers - masking, not absent collection. Because masking occurs at different aggregation levels in each of the four products, totals across them need not reconcile. Datadory ships the flags intact so downstream aggregations treat suppression correctly instead of reading it as zero.
