To January 3, 2006 - roughly 845,000 issued permits across 122 fields running continuously to the present, excluding only permits voided or revoked after issuance. Issue dates ran through August 20, 2026 at last verification, with new permits folding in as they are cut.

How big are the Chicago taxi and ride-hail archives?

Taxi Trips holds roughly 1.7 billion historical rides for 2013-2023 plus about 17.5 million trips in the successor series covering January 2024 forward, observed through August 2026. Ride-hail coverage spans November 2018 to the present in three archives, the current one alone carrying roughly 139 million rows.

Do the taxi and ride-hail tables cover the same geography?

Yes. Both code pickup and dropoff to Chicago's 77 community areas and to census tracts, with centroid coordinates standing in where exact tracts are deliberately withheld. The shared lattice means cab and ride-hail curves sit side by side in one panel with no crosswalk file.
