What exactly does GCP-CEM measure?

Process emissions from carbonate decomposition - the CO2 driven out of limestone when it becomes clinker - about 1.5 Gt CO2 in 2025. Fossil-fuel combustion at cement plants, roughly 0.9 Gt CO2 the same year, is deliberately excluded because it already sits in global fossil-CO2 datasets; double counting is avoided by design.

How can cement emissions data reach back to 1880?

The series is reconstructed, not merely reported. Emissions and cement production run 1880 through 2025 and clinker from 1900, with pre-1990 values assembled from historical mineral yearbooks - some recovered by back-calculation - and former Soviet states disaggregated before dissolution. China's national workbook goes to 1949 with monthly series inside.

Which countries get special estimation treatment?

All UNFCCC Annex I countries take their emissions straight from official submissions. Brazil, India, South Africa, Thailand, the USA and Vietnam get country-specific methods; remaining non-Annex I countries use clinker-ratio approaches with default factors, except China and Argentina, whose factors are officially reported. Nine countries receive full national workbooks.

How current are the figures?

Values run through 2025, and the current vintage already incorporates 2026 Annex 1 reports and new Biennial Transparency Reports, with the cement production table reaching 2024 in this edition. On Datadory's side the delivery cadence - daily, weekly or hourly - is your call and changes neither fact.
