How far back does the pipeline throughput history go?
Coverage starts 1 January 2006 and runs to the present, roughly two decades per system, with record metadata verified through 31 March 2026 during our August 2026 research pass. Recent periods fill in as operators file on their regulatory schedule - monthly for oil and liquids, daily for gas - so the newest period arrives complete rather than provisional.
What is the difference between nameplate and available capacity?
Nameplate is the physical limit the pipeline can safely carry. Available capacity is the realistic figure after crude type, unplanned outages, maintenance, downstream constraints or pressure restrictions bite - and the Reason For Variance field states why the two differ in any given period. Dividing throughput by available capacity yields a defensible utilization series.
What caveats should I know before building on it?
Three. Committed and uncommitted volume splits exist only for Keystone and only from January 2023, so contracting-mix analysis has a shorter history than flow analysis. Trans Mountain revised product categorizations around May 2024, so long-run studies should run against the archived file set we include when the window crosses that boundary. And the natural gas dictionary carries a unit note inconsistent with its column header, so exact units are pinned against shipped rows before delivery.
