Straight answers about Open Brewery DB data
How many establishments does the corpus cover?
11,822 breweries, cideries, brewpubs and bottleshops across 23-plus countries and 213-plus states and regions at research time - roughly 8,224 in the United States, about 1,445 in Germany and around 514 in Australia. One row per physical venue, nothing aggregated above it.
What do the brewery_type values actually mean?
They form a closed set describing business models rather than beer styles: micro and nano for small tank rooms, regional and large for production scale, brewpub for venues pouring their own beer, plus contract, proprietor, planning, bar, taproom and closed. The headline counts - 5,837 micros, 3,929 brewpubs, 642 closed - sketch the industry's shape directly.
How complete are the address and coordinate fields?
The project publishes its own figures: address_1 runs about 94 percent populated, address_2 roughly 3 percent and address_3 effectively zero, while coordinates, phone and website are nullable throughout. Datadory ships those figures with the dictionary so sparse columns read as documented sparsity, not broken loads.
Does the data include historical time series?
No - it is a continuously maintained snapshot of current establishments, not an archive of past states. Community edits land between package cuts while the formal distribution carries a 2024 version label. Datadory annotates the seam and attaches reconciliation counts so printed numbers can be verified against the pull that produced them.
