Straight answers about Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) data
What does SIA data cover?
Two collections: the global semiconductor billings series with five-region year-over-year breakdowns, and the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics shipment record - value, units and average selling prices across 200-plus reporting categories by product family, end use and destination region.
How far back does the history go?
Monthly shipment observations reach back to 1976 - nearly five decades of continuous series, among the longest in technology economics. Biannual industry forecasts have been layered on since 2000, each projecting three calendar years ahead.
What did the most recent readings show?
Q2 2026 billings hit $403.3 billion, up 35.1 percent quarter over quarter, with June alone at $134.5 billion. The May 2026 reading was $120.6 billion, up 9.2 percent month over month against $59.1 billion a year earlier, led by the Americas at +132.2 percent year over year.
Where do the numbers originate?
From mandatory monthly reports filed by WSTS's 49 member companies, passed through regional data-collection agents that aggregate and anonymize them before transmission. No single company's figures appear anywhere in the series - only the industry aggregate.
