How many protein interactions does STRING hold?

More than 20 billion scored functional associations connecting 59,309,604 proteins from 12,535 organisms. The complete links file alone weighs roughly 128.7 GB gzipped, with a detailed variant at 189.6 GB - which is why scoping by organism and confidence threshold beats pulling everything.

What does a STRING confidence score mean?

Each association carries a combined score from 0 to 1 built from seven evidence channels. Scores express the probability an interaction is true given available evidence, not its strength - documentation notes a score of 0.5 implies roughly every second interaction may be erroneous. Channel subscores ship alongside so you can see what supports each edge.

Which organisms does STRING cover?

12,535 organisms spanning bacteria, archaea, plants, fungi and animals. Evidence observed in one organism transfers to its orthologs in others, so a well-studied human pair can lend support to a counterpart edge in a less-characterized species.

What can STRING data be joined against?

The standard target-prioritization recipe intersects GWAS Catalog SNP-trait associations with STRING's 20 billion interactions and Human Protein Atlas tissue-expression profiles.
