How many requests can you make before paying anything?
The other three APIs are similarly metered rather than gated: arXiv asks for a 3-second delay between calls with a 30,000-result query cap, DOAJ rate-limits every route to 2 requests per second, and OpenAlex hard-caps at 100 req/s while returning 429s once your daily budget runs out. Free scholarly metadata is therefore an etiquette problem before it is a budget problem.
