PPI Industrial Gas Manufacturing Index: Where the Series Lives and How to Use It

BLS distributes the series directly, with no intermediary and no paywall. A first pull takes six steps:

1. Open the series page at data.bls.gov/timeseries/PCU325120325120, which renders the full monthly history as an HTML table.
2. Switch to the BLS public data API for automation - basic use requires no registration, and a free integration key raises the rate limits.
3. Pick your format. The record lists four delivery formats: HTML, XLSX, JSON and TXT, so spreadsheets, notebooks and schedulers are all covered without conversion work.
4. Request annual averages via the API parameter if your analysis works on yearly rather than monthly resolution; the series otherwise ships one index value per month.
5. Build in revision handling. Preliminary figures are revised for up to four months after first publication, so any escalator or model should re-read the trailing four months each refresh.
6. Cite the agency. BLS asks users to credit the Bureau as the source and link back to bls.gov.
