What does Shodan actually charge for?

Shodan indexes service banners across every routable IPv4 address plus IPv6, recording one row per host x port x protocol x timestamp, with geolocation resolved down to city and postal code. It sells access to that index in three layers: query access, export volume and redistribution rights. Datadory catalogs it as a hybrid source with an official API, delivering JSON through web search, REST, streaming and enterprise bulk channels, and carries a quality score of 8.

Every layer shares one hard constraint: a rate limit of 1 request per second applies to all API plans. Budget around throughput first, because no dollar amount in the published tiers raises that ceiling.

How do you estimate your annual Shodan spend?

Work four questions in order and the answer usually falls out cleanly.
