Its ACEA Passenger Car Registrations by Fuel Type and Manufacturer release is the working document: a monthly six-page PDF cutting new passenger-car registrations across about 30 markets into seven fuel columns and roughly 20 manufacturer groups with more than 40 brands, each carrying market shares. Twelve releases land per year, and every one pairs the latest month with cumulative year-to-date figures, so a trend read needs no spreadsheet surgery.

Production measures what factories built: Eurostat's STS_INPR_M expresses it as an index rather than units, useful for cycle timing across 42 geographies, while the OICA World Motor Vehicle Production Statistics publish annual unit counts by country and vehicle type from 1999 through 2026, including partial-year releases such as 2026 Q1 - though OICA itself cautions that some European countries are unavailable.

Sales rankings sit closest to registrations but add model-level detail: GoodCarBadCar tracks automaker, brand, model and segment volumes monthly for the US from 2006 to 2026 and for Europe from 2012 to 2022. A monthly deck on European demand therefore leads with ACEA, borrows Eurostat for supply-side timing, and reaches for OICA or GoodCarBadCar only when the question turns to units produced or specific models sold.
