Where Can I Get Weekly Us Steel Production Data: Dataset Structure and Field Coverage

AISI Industry Data is the direct answer. Every week the American Iron and Steel Institute posts an estimated weekly US raw steel production figure in net tons, a capability utilization rate, an adjusted year-to-date total and a five-district regional split, free on steel.org without login, and distributes the identical report through an email signup.

One weekly record carries six elements: a Saturday-ending week date; estimated domestic raw steel production in net tons; the capability utilization rate as a percentage of installed capability; adjusted year-to-date production with a comparison rate; prior-week and prior-year comparisons; and district production in thousands of net tons.

The districts are fixed five regions: North East, Great Lakes, Midwest, Southern and Western. For the week ending August 15, 2026 they read Great Lakes 479, Southern 830, Midwest 318, North East 140 and Western 66 thousand net tons, a set that sums exactly to the 1,833,000-ton national estimate, with utilization at 79.4 percent. Because the district rows move independently, they are the part of the release worth structuring first when you start storing the series.

Everything is public-domain government work, free without registration, served as Power BI dashboards with in-visual export. AISI’s companion release shows the scale behind those dashboards: July 2026 SIMA permits totaled 2,294,000 net tons, of which 1,594,000 were finished; year-to-date total imports reached 13,585,000 net tons; and finished imports held an 18 percent market share, led by South Korea at 514,000 net tons.

UNSD Industrial Commodity Statistics (steel) adds annual crude steel series for about 103 countries, online for 1995-2016 with 1950-2003 historical series available on request. For a machine-readable monthly index, EU steel & basic-metals production statistics (dissemination API) serves NACE C24 production data from January 1953 to the current month under commercial delivery terms 4.0 with no registration, useful as a European counterpart when you benchmark the US weekly series abroad.
