DiscoverWater.co.uk is jointly produced by Water UK, the water companies, the Consumer Council for Water, Defra, the Drinking Water Inspectorate, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Ofwat and the Welsh Government. Roughly thirty topic pages span leaking pipes, water quality, loss of supply, water pressure, environmental performance, sewer flooding, complaints, customer experience rating, annual bill, resilience and trust.

Every page pairs England & Wales headline figures - for example 2,967 million litres leaked each day as a three-year average to March 2025, and 352,119 km of water mains - with a source attribution such as 'Source: Water UK; England and Wales' and a company-comparison panel. Granularity is one value per company per metric per year, plus the aggregate headlines.

As a company-benchmarking instrument the dashboard is unusually complete - all 19 companies on identical metrics - but it is built for customers, not analysts. No explicit open-data licence is posted: content was agreed by companies, regulators and government bodies 'for customers', and reuse beyond fair dealing needs confirmation from Water UK.

The saving grace for data work is that the client-side charts (rendered by Papa Parse) read plain CSV files referenced in each page's HTML via data-csv attributes, so the per-metric-csv-chart-data can be collected directly instead of scraped off rendered graphics. Annual refresh also means intra-year movements simply are not there.

1. Confirm the company universe matches your panel. Coverage is 19 water and/or sewerage companies across England and Wales; comparisons against Scottish or Northern Irish suppliers fall outside this source.

1. Take the CSVs, not screenshots. Files such as 2025-Leakage-actual-target-UK.csv and 2025-Total-Leakage-Current-UK-Welsh.csv sit under /csv/ and carry per-company rows suitable for direct analysis.

1. Watch the averaging window. Headline leakage is a three-year average to March 2025 while other metrics are single reporting years - mixing windows distorts rankings.

1. Check the reporting-year stamp. 2024-25 figures have been live since January 2026, and prior-year versions provide four years of comparison.

1. Confirm reuse terms with Water UK. No open-data licence is posted, so republication beyond fair dealing is unconfirmed territory.
