Price Ladder / Price Breaks

A price ladder replaces one price column with a list of tiers: buy 10 units at one price, 100 at a lower one, 1,000 lower still. Each step is a price break, and the ladder is the ordered set of those steps.

In this catalog the structure shows up at three grains:

• LCSC Electronics Catalog — 'multi-break price ladders' recorded per LCSC code.
• TME Electronic Components Catalog & API — a per-record price field on each component record.
• Nexar API (Octopart) — granularity described as 'nested per-seller, per-offer price-break detail'.

The Octopart model is the most explicit: because one part number can be sold by many sellers, each with several offers, the breaks nest inside offers rather than sitting beside the part.

Flat schemas are the trap. A buyer who assumes one price per row will silently collapse a multi-tier ladder into its cheapest break, then quote unit economics no distributor honors. The cost lands later, in bill-of-materials estimates that drift from real quotes by the width of the second tier.

• Depth varies by source. LCSC publishes multiple breaks per code; a per-record price field like TME's may carry fewer tiers for the same part.

• Seller context changes the answer. In the Nexar offer model the same part carries different ladders per seller, so any comparison must hold seller and quantity constant together.

Checking is cheap: of the 1,744 datasets Datadory catalogs are free to access (82.4%), so tier structure can be inspected before any budget is committed.
