Straight answers about U.S. Geological Survey (Mineral Resources Online Spatial Data) data

How much USGS deposit data does Datadory deliver?

One dataset carries this source in our catalog: USGS Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS) deposit records, filed under Precious Metals & Minerals and scoring 9 out of 10 on quality. It holds 304,632 mineral-site records - mines, prospects, occurrences and plants - each resolved against 46 documented fields.

How much precious-metal depth is in the corpus?

Counting the primary commodity field alone, roughly 69,940 records list Gold, 24,443 Silver, 1,002 Platinum and 180 Palladium; counting every commodity slot, gold appears as a commodity in about 70,000 of the 304,632 site records. Each row carries primary, secondary and tertiary commodity lists with hyphenated qualifiers.

What does a single MRDS record contain?

One row per mineral site: identifiers including the 12-digit dep_id plus legacy mrds_id and mas_id, the site name, WGS84 latitude and longitude, a metallic/non-metallic flag, three commodity slots, operation type and development status, geology (ore and gangue minerals, host rock class, deposit model), discovery year, first and last production years, and a per-record quality grade from A to E.

What does the A-E record grade mean?

It scores information richness, not accuracy: grade A records are the richest, grade E records generally lack bibliographic references. Filtering on A-grade records is the standard move for research-grade work, and Datadory ships the grade on every row so the screen travels with the data.
