What is ENTSOG interconnection point flow data?

Every doorway between Europe's national gas networks reports on itself, and this is the record of what walked through. Under EU transparency rules, roughly 30 transmission system operators report operational figures for every interconnection point on their networks - plus storage facilities and LNG terminals - into one consolidated record set assembled by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG). The analytical appeal is grain. Most official European gas statistics stop at country-month totals; these records are point-level, direction-specific and timestamped, which is what turns "Europe imported more gas" into "this border point flowed this much in this direction on this gas day." What indicators does one record carry?

Each row holds one indicator for one interconnection point, one direction and one period. The indicator field spans five families:

  1. Physical Flow - measured gas actually crossing the point, in kWh/d at daily grain or kWh/h at hourly grain.
  2. Nomination and Renomination - the quantities shippers scheduled for the gas day, and their revisions before it.
  3. Allocation - the finalised matching of flows to shippers after settlement.
  4. Capacity - technical, available and booked capacity, split firm versus interruptible, plus UIOLI short-term capacity released by operators.
  5. Congestion flags - isCamRelevant and isCmpRelevant mark records governed by EU capacity allocation and congestion management procedures, which makes them ready-made regime markers for any backtest.

Direction is explicit (directionKey reads entry or exit), units are stated per row, and every value carries a flowStatus such as Provisional until settlement finalises it. The verified field set runs to 34 columns, including tsoEicCode, the booking platform reference and lastUpdateDateTime.

Beyond the headline columns sit the audit fields, and they earn their space. periodFrom and periodTo bound the CET-based gas day - 06:00 to 06:00 in the verified examples - while originalPeriodFrom preserves the originally scheduled window when a renomination shifts it. Interruption reporting gets three dedicated fields (interruptionType, restorationInformation, interruptionCalculationRemark), capacity rows carry an isUnlimited flag for uncapped availability, and isNA marks gaps where an operator reported nothing.
